Win a Wedding Update
Today we catch up with our Wedding Competition winner! Lilly & John entered our Win a Wedding competition last year for the opportunity to win a complete wedding on board the Kookaburra Queens, valued up to $20,000. Our Wedding Coordinator Laura spoke with Lilly to see how she is traveling with her wedding plans.
5 months to go - how are your wedding plans getting on?
5 months! It’s crazy how soon it has come around.
We have organised and booked almost everything now and only have the little details to go.
All the vendors involved in the competition have been so lovely and we are very thankful for winning!
Can you tell us a little bit about your lives before winning the wedding?
John and I met in 2011 at a State of Origin BBQ and by the end of the night we had swapped numbers. We were texting nonstop and going on a few dates before he surprised me with roses, chocolate and a stuffed toy after a bad day at work he then asked me to be his girlfriend.
We were together for 2.5 years when he popped the big question in July 2014. He had organised for us to do the Q1 SkyPoint Climb at sunset and stay at our favourite hotel at the Gold Coast. John is terrified of heights but he braved his fear and did the climb, it was very special for me.
John hurt his spine not long after we got engaged and so we didn’t proceed with planning a wedding, his health was our main focus.
How has winning the wedding impacted on your lives / changed your wedding plans?
Winning the wedding has honestly been a dream come true!
We received the news of winning not long after John had spinal surgery and it was such an amazing time for us.
John was recovering and not in pain 24/7 and we were going to become husband and wife sooner than we thought, We were and still are on a high.
I will always be so thankful to Kookaburra Showboat Cruises and all the vendors involved, they all have allowed us to have our dream wedding.
What are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to the moment I start to walk down the aisle, walking into a new chapter in our lives.
What is the biggest stress for you currently?
The biggest stress currently is John organising his suit!
I have done 99% of the planning and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Do you have any advice for any other brides to be currently planning their wedding?
My advice is not to worry about things too much, I only learned this in the last 3 months.
Do lots of research of what is involved in planning a wedding and make a list of what you want and need.
Remember that your day is about getting married to the love of your life and everything else is a bonus!
